Our aim is to bring the benefits of renewable energy and sustainable living to communities. We believe that community structures are a positive way to bring prosperity. Communities can be a focus for change - and a change for the better.
Our team consists of environmentalists, engineers, planners and architects. We have created partnership arrangements with other national bodies whose aim is also centered on the benefits of local solutions.
Origin Energy was established as a Community Interest Company whose aim is to help communities and local governments in Yorkshire and Humberside to live a more prosperous and sustainable life-style.
Its strategy is to raise funds on behalf of communities through the sale
of renewable energy and to establish ways in which this revenue can be spent
to promote longer term prosperity for the community.
Its aim is to:
- Encourage communities to be responsible for their own energy creation and management
- To foster the requirements to communities to live sustainably within their own environment
- To support the up-take of sustainable construction and refurbishment
- To enjoy community living
The tools for achieving these goals include:
- Assessment of local land for citing wind turbines, sized for the needs of the particular community
- Providing and establishing an autonomous community structure to oversee investments in local sustainability needs from the energy revenues
- Acting as a connection between national and local government strategies and communities
- Offering expert advice with regard to:
- Energy creation, usage and savings to homes and business
- Land-use and planning issues
- Ecological footprinting and strategies
- Minimizing environmental impacts of business activities
- Promoting new sustainable business opportunites

Government announces new funding for Community Energy studies (LEAF).
The government has recently announced that it will fund community groups wishing to develop renewable energy projects through a Local Energy Assessment Fund. The window of opportunity is extremely tight with the first round of applications to be submitted by 22nd of December and second by 20th January. All work needs to be completed by 31st March 2012. If you would like your group to make an application we can do this for you and do the study work that would launch your scheme. We also have the resources to take the proposals through to planning and construction. Please download our work scope document and a letter of authorisation and we can do the rest.
